The Best Way to Act

Enter the park
And feel the
breathing of trees
As if nature
too
has a heart
Beating and free
This is what I feel
when breeze is revealed
Time slows down
I can see what is real
and of that which repeats
In the past, present, and future
An inner Gratitude happily weeps

Jubilant dogs and families
Passed by runners
And bicycling partners
Enjoying an ever fleeting summer
All moving past
baseball game
in its last inning
Of the same game
But different players
How is life not a game
When it can be split into frames
Of win and of loss
With rules just so carefully
Placed out of our grasp
Thrown on an initial path
With too little time to do all the math
To look up and see
we’re all just people
Clueless on the same track
Often too scared to share the fact
that we don’t really know
the best way to act.

Life’s a Mix of Green and Blue

Often it’s the inspiration
That overcomes waning motivation,
It’s something outside that
Keeps me from wasting
Time supplied,
Yet time still waiting
For the energy to move,
To be able to choose
Still afraid to act
As if there’s something left to lose,
Let me stop for a moment,
this isn’t just about the blues,
When you can see
All the fresh green
Centered between
Concentric circles
Of swaying trees
Over-washed in
The sweetest breeze
As if life itself is peace at ease,
All our wants
And all our needs
Temporarily sustained
So long as we breathe.

Find a Passion

Find a passion and let it grow
Let it lead you on a path to find your soul.
For me, rhymed insults in high school
Became the poems I’d write for girls I barely knew.
But after a suggestion from a friend
I gave this talent a direction,
A new focus on self reflection,
Not concerned about perfection,
Not to mention
Inspired by others
With lyrical prowess
Who progress
An artistic arrangement of words
With such a finesse
Where people call em the best
Cause instead of choosing to rest
They put to their mind to the test
And use their creativity
Affecting souls productively
While building art for all to see
Living life alongside their dreams

Loveglasses

We wear sunglasses to protect our eyes from the sun.

It also makes it easier to be outside.

Don’t have to squint.
Don’t have to feel the uncomfortable brightness.

How many of us wear sunglasses on our hearts?

Making the lows not hurt as much,
But also limiting the power of the highs.

What do sunglasses of the heart look like?

I’d call them loveglasses.

Ways to make things more of the same by putting a dark shade over everything.

I always feel a little different when I wear sunglasses.

It changes the dynamic of how I feel while interacting with people.

Eye contact is broken. It doesn’t feel as connection-like.

Same with loveglasses.

I wonder how I’d act if I could take my loveglasses off.

Guess what —

Love is as bright as the sun.

You can either embrace it and squint,

Or it can be dulled.

The choice, as it’s always been, is yours.

A Fourth to Remember

Marine Park

Today is the day of independence
So let us remember the events that led to this

Yeah this world isn’t so perfect
As there’s so much left to do
But let’s not discredit the people
Who lost what they didn’t have to lose

Art * Time = Feelings

A new track
A new canvas
A new animation
A new poem

The first bar
The first line
The first frame
The first rhyme

Time
Time
Time
Time

A melody formed
A background grown
A motion stirred
A thought shown

Time
Time
Time
Time

A song to share
Is one to hear

And a painting done
Is for the see-er

A short clip exists
Ever so briefly
To simply show off
The result of one’s dreaming

And here’s my arrangements of words in a row
Sharing my thinking, just so you’ll know

Gratitude

So make the most of it
Dont fall and quit
On your heart
The moment it tears apart
Loss is coming and it’s going to pack a punch
Death is around the corner, this isn’t just a hunch
Wake up – Now is the time to wake up!
Emotions are coming and you need to be strong
Enough to embrace them
Enough to move on
But never forgetting
That the dead live on
So long as you remember
To continue their song

Cause in life we are a combination of these two things
A self that experiences and a self that thinks
We are the sum of our total experiences
With a capacity of our human awareness
When the time comes when we pass this
The only loss is the continuous additiveness
To our own take on lifes experiences

Storing shared moments
Of a fleeting bliss
Sprinkled with bits of painfulness
Yet look at all the togetherness
Envision the people that led to this
See this world as a communal wish
To grasp this ideal of happiness
From them a lesson not to miss
That in the end,
Gratitude is the answer to anguish

Mindful Thinking

Don’t you see?
An understood mind is a fallacy
It’s a joke in the face of reality
‘Cause no ones wrote a truth that all can see
We all see the world differently
Perspectives and mindsets differing
So where we come together it’s where it’s the same
Love is the link that breaks the chain
And replaces it with change
Capable of saving ourselves
Building a better world
Instead of creating our hells
So let’s ring the bells
This a call to action
There’s a reason love sells

Summer of Dreams

This is the Summer
When dreams come to life
No longer in slumber
They won’t stay in my night
For I have a hunger
To inspire my self
Along with others
To change this world and bring the focus back to love
With my hands and my heart
This blessing of time is more than enough.

Choose to Grow

This is my entry for the Raise Up Project, an online hip-hop and spoken word competition aimed to put a dent in the high school drop-out crisis where at least a million students drop out each year. Find the lyrics below:
